SARASOTA, Fla. -- Eleanor Cole Hallenbeck, 72, of South Dartmouth, Mass., and Sarasota died April 10, 2005, in Florida. She was the widow of William W. Hallenbeck, who died in 1990.
Born in Corning, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Eleanor (Houghton) and Glen W. Cole, a former president of Corning Glass Company.
She was the great-great-granddaughter of Corning Glass founder Amory Houghton and the niece of Amory Houghton who served as chairman of Corning Glass and was U.S. Ambassador to France in the late 1950s. She was also the granddaughter of Alanson B. Houghton, the former U.S. Ambassador to Germany and to the Court of St. James.
Mrs. Hallenbeck was raised in Corning and Manhattan, N.Y. After marriage, she and her husband moved to Sarasota and raised their family.
She was involved in many charitable causes, including the Salvation Army, the New Bedford Historical Society, the United Way, the Sarasota Memorial Hospital and the Triangle Fund.
Survivors include three sons, Wilson R. Page, Peter T. Page and William W. Hallenbeck; a sister, Adelaide Griswold; and six grandchildren.
Her memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Aidan's Chapel, 185 Smith Neck Road, South Dartmouth, Ma.
