On Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016, our Lord and Savior welcomed Betty Lou (Smith) Miller, his loving and faithful servant, home at the graceful age of 90 years old. She departed this life with her loving son and daughter-in-law by her side.
Betty was born October 13, 1925 to William Eli Smith and Emma Elizabeth Hyland. She was a lifelong resident of Anderson and graduated from Anderson High School in 1943. She married the love of her life, Ray Miller, on April 13th, 1948 in Joliet, IL. Betty worked for Warner Press for several years and retired in 1991 from General Motors. She was an active and devoted Methodist and a member of New Horizons United Methodist Church. She was proud to be an initial and continuing patron of the Anderson Symphony Orchestra and member of Avondale Sympathy Club. She loved hosting the extended Miller Family Christmas dinner for many years and spending the winter at her condo in Mulberry, FL. Betty was a dedicated mother, proud grandmother and enjoyed exploring the country with her family. She also loved to spread joy and cheer by singing her favorite songs and giving the most wonderful hugs to every person she saw.
She is survived by her son Don and Jean (Ledbetter) Miller, Norman, OK; six grandchildren: Wendi and Michael Calvert, Oklahoma City, OK, Carly Miller and fiancé Beau Bauernschmitt, Norman, OK, Nicholas Miller and significant other Jordan King, Norman, OK, Aimee Miller and significant other Scott Burnett, Kansas City, MO, Cory Miller, Anderson, IN, Jeremy Miller, Anderson, IN; four great-grandchildren: Addison and Keaton Viravong, Maisey Calvert, Asher Burnett, and a great-grandson due in August. She is also survived by half-brother Steve Smith, Austin, TX and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather Harold Connelly; beloved husband Ray; son Ross; sisters Virginia Myers, Wanda Smith, and Helen Althoetmar; half-sister Bertha “Jerry” Ballard; and nephew John Althoetmar.
Services will be held on Friday, April 1, 2016 at 1 p.m. at New Horizons United Methodist Church officiated by Pastor Gina Kirkland. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
