Obituary

NEW BEDFORD -- Harvey Crook Jr., 91, of New Bedford died Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Hazel (Clough) Crook of Hathaway Manor.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of Harvey Sr. and Mary (Hitchon) Crook.
He graduated from New Bedford High School and New Bedford Textile School, and was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.
He served in the Army with the 280th Engineer Combat Battalion during World War II in England, France, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg and Germany. He received the Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Army of Occupation Medal of Germany. He was a member of Freetown VFW Post 6643.
He worked in the textile industry in New Bedford for many years.
A talented pianist, Mr. Crook also taught organ to many in the area. He was the organist for the Abraham H. Howland Lodge and the Social Harmony Lodge. He often appeared at area nursing homes and the Buttonwood Senior Center.
He was an active member of the Masons; he was master of the Eureka Lodge, now merged with Quitticus Lodge A.F.&A.M., five times.
Survivors include his widow and several cousins.
His funeral was at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2005, at the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., followed by burial in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
