Bertha M. Plasse (1923-2016)
Bertha Mae Sherman Plasse of Mystic passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 20, 2016. She was born on Jan 1, 1923 in Worcester, MA.
While attending Becker College in Worcester she met her husband, Paul E. Plasse, on a blind date.
With their move to Mystic, Bertha became not only a devoted mother, but also a tireless volunteer; involved in her children’s activities at school, church and scouts. She was a member of The Daughters of Isabella, and a small group of homemakers known as “The Laurelettes”.
Family, friends, faith, as well as crafts and sewing were the fabric of her life.
Her passion for singing, whether it was with Saint Patrick's Choir, The Eastern Connecticut Symphony, or Cappella Cantorum filled her with joy and led her on concert trips to Europe. She never missed a rehearsal; may her song live on.
Bertha is predeceased by her husband, Paul, her eldest son, David, and her sister Gertrude Murphy of MA. She is survived by her daughter Virginia, of Westerly; her son, Andrew and his wife Pamela of Mystic; two grandsons, Matthew of Mystic, Michael and his wife Robyn of Groton; and three great-grandsons, Mason, Seth and Elliott; she also leaves behind two nieces; and a loving relative, Marie and her husband Deacon Richard “Monti” Montalto, of Phoenix, MD.
Calling hours will be held Monday, March 28 from 5pm to 7pm at Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, March 29 at 10 am at St. Patrick Church, 32 E. Main St., Mystic with burial following at St. Patrick Cemetery.
