PICO RIVERA, Calif. — Richard S. Sullivan, age 92 years, of Montibello, California, died January 23, 2016 in Pico Rivera, California.
Husband of the late Alice Jenney Sullivan, Dick was born in New Bedford, attended Holy Family Grammar School and graduated from New Bedford High School and worked at the former Trudell Pharmacy. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II stationed at Norfolk and Quantico, Virginia. While there, Alice went down to see him and they were married in Elizabeth City, N.C. on Dec. 29, 1943. He was a knowledgeable corpsman also stationed at the Boston Naval Hospital. He then went on to California and Japan as part of the Occupational Forces. Back to California, he graduated from Woodbury College and was called up for the Korean Conflict.
Dick was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad retiring at the age of 60. He, his wife and daughter enjoyed many years of dancing. He was also an active Mason and member of the White Shrine.
Survivors include his daughter Betty Sullivan; nieces and nephews Laureen Milroy, Suzanne Sullivan, Cathy Martin, Kathleen Mandley, Tricia Bosworth, Mary Beth Ganache, Michael Sullivan, James Sullivan; and a stepcousin Richard as well as all their families and cousins.
A Masonic service will take place on Saturday, March 19th at 2 P.M. in the Wilson Chapel 479, County St., New Bedford followed by military honors. Burial in River-side Cemetery in Fairhaven will be on Monday, March 21st at 9:30 a.m
