Barbara V. (Williams) Mather age 86 of Assonet, formerly of Brockton, passed away Friday March 11, 2016 at St. Ann Hospital in Fall River after a 6 year battle with 4 types of cancer. She was the loving wife of Joseph J. Mather (ret. BFD) for 67 years. Barbara was born and raised in Brockton a daughter of the late Mary (Khoury) and Peter Saad Williams and remained a resident of the city until moving to Assonet in 2000.
A 1947 graduate of Brockton High School, Barbara had worked at Hathaway Bakery and then was the manager for Julie’s Dress & Sport Shop on Brockton’s eastside plaza for many years. She had been a member of the Brockton Historical Society, the Lebanese American Auxiliary, and assisted at many Brockton Hospital fund raising events. She also enjoyed exercising at the Exercise Connection, gardening and took great pride in cleaning and organizing her home. She was an ardent fan of the Boston Red Sox, Patriots and Michigan State Basketball.
Barbara’s true joy in life was her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Barbara was the devoted mother of 4 children, Joseph P. Mather and his wife Susan (Millett)of Sagamore Beach; Peter J. Mather of Brockton, Christopher R. Mather of Assonet and the late Karen Rademacher. She was Sito to 5 grandchildren; James Mather, Cruz Mather, William Styles Rademacher, Andrew Mather and the late Julie Mather. She also had 2 great grandchildren; Justin and Olivia Mather. Additionally, she had 4 siblings, Rosemarie Sahady of Fall River and the late Mildred Murphy, Josie Maraglia and Joseph Williams.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (rte. 123) Brockton on Wednesday 4-8pm with the Service of Incense at 6pm. The procession will gather at the funeral home on Thursday at 9:30 am for the Service of Divine Mysteries at St. Theresa Maronite Church at 10:30am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
