Munafo, Santino “Sam”
Of Stoneham March 11th. Born in Castroreale Sicily to Antonio Munafo and Maria (Calamoneri) Munafo before the family moved to Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, both in the province of Messina, Sicily, Italy. Beloved husband of the late Josephine (Pasqua) Munafo. They lived in Somerville before moving to Stoneham.
Devoted father of Marie Cauteruccio and her husband Joe of West Roxbury, Tony Munafo and his wife Mary of Manchester, CT. Grandfather of Mark Munafo, Matt Munafo, Joe Cauteruccio Jr., Alicia Cauteruccio and great-grandson Maxwell Munafo. Brother of the late Salvatore Munafo, Caterina Munafo and Peppina Consales, all of Italy. Also survived by many nieces and nephews in the United States and Italy.
An airplane mechanic in the Italian Air Force, he became a diesel mechanic in the Boston area working for Nu Car Carriers for many years in Readville and Ayer before retiring. He was a member of Local 25 AFL-CIO. An avid auto enthusiast, his daughter and son enjoyed driving many different types of cars he restored. In his retirement years when not spending time with his family, he occupied mornings and evenings with friends at Caffe Toscana in Medford where all manner of local and global issues were discussed and resolved.
The family would like to extend its heartfelt thank you to the many caregivers who provided Santino with comfort and care during his later stages of life.
Funeral from the Robert J. Lawler and Crosby Funeral Home 1803 Centre St., West Roxbury, on Saturday March 19, at 9:00am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. John Chrysostom Church at 10:00am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours in the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00pm. Interment St. Michael Cemetery.
