N. Andover – John W. McDonnell, 83 of North Andover, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen. He was the beloved husband of the late Joyce (Bilodeau) McDonnell.
John was born in Lawrence on February 4, 1933, the son of William and Bernadette (Keenan) McDonnell. He was educated in Lawrence schools, graduated from Central Catholic High School, and received his bachelor’s degree from Merrimack College.
John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked as an Inventory Control Supervisor at Raytheon Company. He enjoyed wood carving, painting, photography, gardening, and he was an avid 45’s card player. He also loved traveling with his wife throughout the United States and Europe.
John will be deeply missed by his 4 daughters, Christine Ouellet and her husband, Robert of Plaistow, NH, Patricia Tornatore and her husband, John of Hamden, CT, Robin Morin and her husband, Richard of Londonderry, NH, and Kellie Mahoney and her husband, Daniel of Andover; 8 grandchildren, Erin, Lauren, Joel, Justin, Sean, Brian, Cody, and Jillian; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother, Gerald McDonnell and sister, Claire McEvoy.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate John’s life by gathering for calling hours at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen on Thursday, March 10, 2016 from 3:30 – 6:30 PM. His funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday at 6:30 PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to Operation Smile, 3641 Faculty Blvd, Virginia Beach, VA 23453.
