CHICOPEE – James Marr, 68, a longtime resident of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, March 6, 2016. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on February 11, 1948, a beloved son of the late Henry R. and Mary T. (Butler) Marr. He was raised in Holyoke, graduated in 1967 from Holyoke High School and lived in the city for many years. In 1982, he moved to the Willimansett section of Chicopee and, in 2008, he moved to the Aldenville section of Chicopee. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served for one year. In 1968, he transferred to the United States Army during the Vietnam War and served his country until May 20, 1977. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and received the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. Following his military service, he returned to the area and was employed for over 22 years at the former Spalding Sports Worldwide in Willimansett, which later became Callaway Golf. He was a member of the former Willimansett American Legion Post 353 and a former member of the Holyoke Lodge of Elks. Jim enjoyed puttering around his home and was always working on a project. Most of all, he was a man who enjoyed the simple things in life and was always ready to assist his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Cynthia C. “Cindy” (Pollender) Marr. They were married on October 11, 1969 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 46 years of happiness together. He also leaves his three loving children, Christopher S. Marr and his wife, Susan M. (Morrissey) Marr, of Framingham, Susan A. Marr of Fort Mill, SC and Matthew J. Marr, Sr. and his wife, Alicia A. (Laterreur) Marr, of Chicopee; his five cherished grandchildren, Theresa Marr, Jessica Marr, Matthew Marr, Jr., Natalya Marr and Cameron Marr; his dear sister, Harriet LeFavour of Holyoke; his dear sister-in-law, Theresa Marr of Holyoke; his two dear brothers-in-law, Ronald Pollender and his fiancée, Linda Surabian, of Springfield and Dennis Pollender and his fiancée, Darlene Page, of Carolina Beach, NC; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Marr and Pollender families. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his dear twin brother, Richard W. Marr who was Called Home on March 27, 2006. His funeral will be held on Thursday morning, March 10, 2016 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 10:30 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with United States Army Military Honors will follow the Mass at 2 pm in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
