Theresa McGovern (Ardito) homemaker, passed away March 3, 2016.Wife of the late Francis McGovern, telephone company worker. Survived by Michael and his wife Linda (Lay), Stephen and his wife Danette (McManus), Kevin and his wife Elaine (DeSalvo), Karen McGovern- Connell and Maria (McGovern) and her husband Edward Rowley. Theresa was very proud of her eight grandchildren, Meredith (McGovern) Adams and her husband Douglass Adams, Ryan McGovern, Matthew McGovern and his wife Megan McGovern (Stamm), Patrick McGovern, Michaela Connell, Francis Connell, Paul Rowley and William Rowley. Theresa had one great grandson Douglass McGovern Adams.
Theresa was born in Boston March 6, 1928. She grew up with her father John and mother Eliza (Foppiano) and sisters Maria, Anna, and Lilly on North Bennett Street in the North End of Boston. After high school, Theresa worked as a secretary in Boston. She married Francis McGovern on September 16th, 1950. The family lived in Somerville, Holbrook, and eventually settled down at 106 Corey Street in West Roxbury in 1959.
Theresa was devoted to her family and her 5 children grew up to be successful in their careers. Theresa’s marriage to Frank “Gussie” gave her much joy throughout her life. When Francis passed away in 1994 she continued to live in West Roxbury until recently moving in with her daughter Karen. Through the years Theresa’s goal was to keep her family together if not physically, then in spirit. She brought happiness to all. She loved holidays and any special occasions that brought us together, and took special joy during those times. Her family will always be grateful that she lived her life supporting them and many others.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Theresa of Avila Church2078 Centre St. West Roxbury on Tuesday March 8, at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Interment St. Joseph Cemetery.
