Obituary


SOMERSET… Alfred “Fred” Medeiros, 89, of Somerset passed away March 1st at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford.
He was the loving husband of Helen (Souza) Medeiros to whom he was married for 59 years.
Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Antone R. and Maria (Pereira) Medeiros. He grew up in Fall River but spent most of his life in Somerset.
Mr. Medeiros served our country during WWII with the United States Army in Heidelberg, Germany. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Swansea, was a member of the Somerset Lions Club, spent 18 years working with the Somerset Volunteer Fire Company and sat for 9 years on the Somerset Advisory and Finance Committee. He graduated from Somerset High School in 1945. For 17 years, he was the co-owner of the former Danfred Jewelers and worked for 23 years in the Purchasing Department at Raytheon’s Submarine Signal Division. He enjoyed gardening and playing golf.
Along with his wife, he leaves a son, Stephen Medeiros and his wife Denise of Assonet, a daughter, Judy Medeiros of Somerset, a sister, Elaine Medeiros of Falls Church, VA, 3 grandchildren, Derek Medeiros and his wife Kori, Scott Medeiros and his wife Ashley and Kristen Medeiros. He was brother of the late Antoinette Velozo and Daniel Medeiros.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Saturday at 8:30 AM from the South Coast Funeral Home, 1555 Pleasant St. Fall River, MA 02723 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 530 Gardner’s Neck Rd. Swansea. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hours will be held Friday from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Fred’s name can be made to the Somerset Lions Club, P.O.
