Giles H. Dunn, 65, of Mattapoisett died unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 22, 2005.
Born in Mattapoisett, he was the son of the late Ralph C. and Rita Dunn. He was the husband of Gail W. Dunn. He lived in Mattapoisett most of his life.
Mr. Dunn served in the Marine Corps from 1958-1962 and returned to Mattapoisett after being honorably discharged. He then began work in his father's business, G. H. Dunn Insurance and Real Estate; he was president of the company from 1964 to 2003. When he retired, the business continued in family hands; it is currently owned by his son, David.
A member of the Pythagorean Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Marion, Mr. Dunn was a devoted Mason. He also belonged to the Scottish Rite, Royal Arch Chapter, and the Shriner's. He was a Past-Master of the Pythagorean Lodge and District Deputy Grand Master of the Nantucket 31st District. He was President of the Pine Island Cemetery and on the board of trustees for the Christian Church of Mattapoisett. He will be best remembered as a vibrant, social man who loved fishing, boating, and his family.
Survivors include his wife; 2 daughters, Rebecca Dunn Chowske, and her husband Joseph A. Chowske, of Bellerose, NY and Susan Dunn Johnson, and her husband Charles M. Johnson Jr., of Hudson, MA; a son, David W. Dunn, and his wife Diana, of Mattapoisett; three grandchildren, Devin and Alexander Chowske, and Griffin Dunn, and a brother, Charles B. Dunn of Mattapoisett.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6), Mattapoisett, Monday, June 27th at 1 PM.
Visiting hours Sunday, June 26th from 4-7 PM.
Interment Pine Island Cemetery.
