Obituary

Helen Mello, age 81, passed away on February 27, 2016 at Charlton Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Antone I. Mello, Jr. Born in Westport, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Barboza) Silvia. Helen worked as head housekeeper for the Hampton Inn and retired in the early 1990's.

Of all that is left behind, one of the most important are the memories that she left with everyone that knew her. If you knew Helen-you have been touched by her kindness and sweet sense of humor and guaranteed you have a funny story to share. Of all the things she loved in life her family was always at the top of the list. She knew how to let herself be a kid again and enjoy life. We will always remember her sweet laugh and impish grin, and the many nicknames lovingly given to us over the years. Until the very end although her mind had been taken over by her disease, a childs smile/laugh or mere presence would allow our sweet mother, grandmother, wife, friend to shine through. That smile would say it all. We love you Helen and are blessed to have had you to ourselves for as long as we did. Until we meet again...

Along with her husband she leaves behind her children Antone J. Mello, William A. Mello, Michael A. Mello, Susan M. Mello, Mary L. Tenczar and Karen M. Kettle all of Fall River; her sister Genevive Stockhouser; her grandchildren Shannon, Amber, Lindsay, Michelle, Misty, George, Alan, Timothy, Paige, Scott, David and James; her great-grandchildren Cameren, Colin, Alan, Jr., Amelia and Emma. She was predeceased by her siblings Rita White and Antone Silvia. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. Also, a very special thank you to Isabel Depina who was her caretaker for many years and loved and cared for Helen and her husband as though they were her own family. There are no words to properly express our gratitude.

Her calling hours will take place in the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on Thursday from 4-8 P.M. with a service at 7 P.M. Cremation to follow. www.rogersfuneral.com.
