Mary Mullis Bishop Marchant, 99, of Forsyth, formerly of Tifton, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2016, at Navicent Health in Macon. Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 28, 2016, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Rev. Danny Parker officiating. Mrs. Marchant’s granddaughter, Lorraine Bunn will give the eulogy. Mrs. Marchant will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 27, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mrs. Marchant’s nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Born October 4, 1916 in Tift County, Mrs. Marchant was the daughter of the late Joel Mullis and Eliza Marchant Mullis. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, James “Buddy” Bishop; her second husband, Maxwell Marchant; two brothers, Henry Mullis and J. T. Mullis; and two sisters, Lucille Stephens and Elizabeth Doles. She retired as Director of Housekeeping at Airhost Inn in Atlanta. In her younger years, she was employed with the Tifton Police Department. She loved her family and enjoyed traveling and had traveled to all the lower 48 states.
Mrs. Marchant is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joel Gary and Bettye Bishop of Forsyth; a sister, Ethelle Trella of Rochelle Park, New Jersey; three grandchildren, Sheryl Edwards, Lorraine Bunn and James Bishop; eight great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
