John R. “Jack” Mountcastle, III age 90 of Brockton died Monday February 22, 2016 at Blue Hills Health and Rehab Center after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth T. (Dalton) Mountcastle for 67 years. Jack was born in Richmond, Virginia and raised in North Carolina and Washington, DC, a son of the late John R. Mountcastle, Jr. and Margie Gay (Weisiger) Mountcastle. He had been a resident of Brockton since 1953.
During WWII, Jack served in the US Army and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He had been a member of VFW Post 1046 in Brockton and the DAV.
For over 20 years, Jack had been worked in the construction field in the Brockton area until retiring in 1979. In his free time, Jack was able to exercise his artistic talents in creating custom made sweatshirts and arts and crafts projects he gave away as gifts. He could make or fix anything with his hands. He also enjoyed trips to the dog track, gambling, playing cards, poker and going on camping road trips.
Jack will be remembered as a happy, outgoing and sociable man who loved to play jokes on others. He loved dancing especially with his wife and spending time with his family.
Jack was the father of John R. Mountcastle, IV and his wife Cassandra of Brockton, James M. Mountcastle and his wife Stephanie of Laguna Niguel, California, Ann E. Badger and her husband Ronald of Brockton, Margie E. Petrides and her husband Dave of Milford and William “Billy” D. Mountcastle of Brockton. He leaves 6 grandchildren John R. Mountcastle, V; James M. Mountcastle, Jeffery A. Mountcastle, Nicole A. Jaramillo, Stephanie L. Castillo and David P. Petrides, Jr. Also 7 great grandchildren Griffin, Savannah, Sydney, Jenna, Dominic, Ethan and Zoe. He was the brother of the late Thomas Dixon of Florida and the late Elizabeth “Betsy” Guice of Virginia.
The family would like to thank all the staff at the Blue Hills Alzheimer’s Care Center in Stoughton for taking such great care of Jack for the past 7 years.
Burial with Military honors will be held in Calvary Cemetery in the fall. Donations in Jack’s memory may be made to the Fund for William D. Mountcastle at 251 Forest Ave., Brockton.
