Charles M. McLeman, Jr. “Charlie”, age 88, of Winchester, passed away on February 18th, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Violet V. (Lawson) McLeman.
Born in Dorchester, he was the son of the late Charles M. and Barbara (Scott) McLeman, originally from Scotland. Mr. McLeman was raised in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School. He enlisted in the Army following high school, and served honorably during World War II. Upon discharge, he returned home and married his sweetheart, Violet, in 1950. He soon began his own trucking/excavating company, which he owned and operated for many years, well into his eighties.
An independent, self-made man, Charlie was proud to have built his home in Winchester and his business garage in Arlington. He also used his skills to build a summer home in Weare, NH, on Lake Horace, where he and his family spent many enjoyable summers.
Charlie was a devoted husband to his wife, Violet, and a loving father to his children: Nancy Heffron and her husband David of Woburn, Charles M., III and his wife Susan of Winchester, Heather Fata and her husband Steven of Wakefield, and the late Barbara McLeman. He was the dear brother of Mary Brown of PA and the late James McLeman, and is further survived by his adoring grandchildren: Sarah, Rebecca, Charlie IV, Lauren, Alex and Zachary, and great-grandsons Jacob and Carter. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held in the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Tues., Feb. 23rd at 10AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Monday from 4-8PM. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Winchester Hospital Foundation (in memo: Center for Cancer Care), 41 Highland Ave., Winchester, MA 01890.
