Obituary

Edward L. Dexter, 77, of Mattapoisett died June 20, 2005 at Forestview Nursing Home in Wareham after a long illness.
He was the son of the late Charles H. and Catherine V. (Jackson) Dexter and stepson of the late Gertrude (Washburn) Dexter.
Mr. Dexter was born in Mattapoisett and had lived in Mattapoisett for most of his life.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War before retiring after 22 years of service. He later owned and operated a lawn care service in Mattapoisett.
Mr. Dexter was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Fort Phoenix Post 2892 in Fairhaven, the Florence Eastman American Legion Post 280 in Mattapoisett, and the Machacom Club.
He proudly represented the U.S. Navy for over 30 years at the Annual Memorial Day Parade in Mattapoisett.
Survivors include 2 sons, Edward W. Dexter of Mattapoisett, and Robert H. Dexter, and his wife Sylvia, of Hurricane Mills, Tenn.; a daughter, Eileen M. Tillman of Jacksonville, FL; 2 stepdaughters, Nancy Johnson of Acushnet and Norma Fenech of Allen Park, Michigan; a daughter-in-law, Diane Susko of Mattapoisett; 3 sisters, Catherine Mucha, and her husband Ted, of Frederick, Maryland, Jane Burd Chun of Tarpon Springs, FL, and Nancy Rowley of Onset; his dear friend, Priscilla Dean of New Bedford; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
He was the former husband of the late Florence (Perusa) Dexter Drago, father of the late John Susko and Steven Susko and brother of the late Robert H. Dexter.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6), Mattapoisett, Saturday, June 25th at 10 AM.
Visiting hours Friday, June 24th from 4-8 PM.
Interment Ellis Cemetery, Mattapoisett.
