Marjorie (Sprigg) Melody, 80, of Westport died Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Tobey Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Providence, RI, daughter of the late Howard F. Sprigg and the late Theodore and Norma R. (Cooney) Roberts, she had lived in Westport for most of her life. She was a graduate of Attleboro High School Class of 1953. Prior to retirement, she was a field director for the Plymouth Bay Girl Scouts Council, she served as the first female police officer for the Town of Westport and also worked as a waitress at Abraham Manchesters Restaurant. Marge was a member of the Elephant Rock Beach Club. An avid flower gardener, she also enjoyed the Westport River, travelling and bird watching. The family wished to express their gratitude to the staff of the Sippican Healthcare Center for the care that was provided to Marjorie.
Survivors include a son: Robert I. Melody and his wife Carol of Westport; 2 daughters: Lauren A. Grace and her husband Abel Grace, Jr. of Mattapoisett and Robin M. Beck of Westport; 2 sisters: Kathleen Hagar of FL and Carol Stanley of VT; 5 grandchildren: Kathleen, Sara, Katie, Amy and Spencer; a great grandson: Dexter; and several nieces and nephews.
She was mother of the late Kathleen J. Melody and sister of the late Howard F. Sprigg and step-sister of the late Carol Ann Blazic.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Potter Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M.

Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
