Tilton-----Lionel Corno, 90, formerly of Gilford, died Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at the New Hampshire Veterans home.
Lionel was born December 9, 1925 in Manchester, son of the late Freeman and Adele (Guay) Corno. He enlisted in the Army Air Force prior to high school graduation. After WWII he attended Merrimack College, earning a Bachelor’s in Economics. In his later years Lionel was a certified real estate appraiser.
Lionel was an avid rifleman and archer and participated in competitions for over 30 years. In 1970 he ranked 8th in the country in long-range shooting. He also was a hunter who loved walking in the woods.
Lionel is survived by four daughters, Sheila Corno Mattaliano and her husband Robert of Northborough, MA; Sherry Sleeper and her husband Thomas of Gilford; Sharon Lavigne of East Hampstead and Lorna Corno and her partner Robert Woods of Manchester; and his son, Lee Corno of Meredith; five grandchildren, Duane Sleeper of Laconia, Kelley Couture and her husband Matt of Laconia, Marsha Weeks and her husband Roger of Gilford, Shawn Lavigne of Manchester and Christopher Mattaliano of Minneapolis and six great-grandchildren. Lionel’s wife, Shirley F. Corno passed in 2015; he is also predeceased by his son-in-law, Donald Lavigne.
Calling hours are Monday, February 15, 2016 from 9:00-10:30am at Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia using the Carriage House entrance.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Andre Bessette Parish – Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Avenue, Laconia on Monday, February 15, 2016 at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Hampshire Veterans Home, 139 Winter Street, Tilton, NH, where Lionel spent his last years.
