Obituary

Naomi (Robbins) Costa of Provincetown passed away Tuesday, February 9th at Seashore Point Rehabilitation and Wellness Center in Provincetown. She was 80.

Born August 13, 1935 in Dennisport, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Edith P. (Murray) Robbins and Linwood Robbins. She was a 13th generation descendant of the Mayflower. Shortly after her graduation from Yarmouth High School in 1954, she married John O. Costa of Provincetown, with whom she had six children.

Throughout her life, she had many jobs. However, in the early years, when not at work, you could often find Naomi being a Den Mother in the Cub Scouts, a leader to the Bluebirds and Campfire Girls or being ready to help with the many bake sales and assorted fundraisers the kids had for school. Her work life was also full. She did housecleaning for many people, worked at the music store in Whalers Wharf, did motel front desk work, and for many years, was an attendant at the MPL public restrooms, although she had a far more colorful name for it!

Naomi enjoyed being out and about talking to both locals and strangers alike, both in town and away. Most of all, she enjoyed her family, whether it was walking in the woods, on the beaches or at family parties.

Naomi is survived by her children John Neil Costa and his friend Mary of St. Louis, MO; Johno, his wife Brenda and Shane Costa all of Provincetown; Cindy Schmidt with her husband Eddie of North Truro; and Joan Tansey and husband Bernard of North Eastham. She was predeceased by a daughter, Edith M. Costa-Rose of Provincetown. She also leaves 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins, including Ann Hill of Winter Haven, FL. Sisters Phyllis Horton and Mary Whittemore and Mary’s husband Carl, of Dennisport; brother-in-law Robert Steele of West Yarmouth and Elkton, FL as well as good friend, Helen Costa of Orleans also survive her. She was predeceased by her bothers Alton Robbins, Timothy Robbins and a sister Lois Steele.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Gately Funeral Home, 94 Harry Kemp Way, Provincetown on Friday, February 26th from 4 to 7 pm. The Funeral will be held Saturday, February 27th at 11:00 am at the Provincetown United Methodist Church, Shankpainter Rd., Provincetown. Burial will be in Provincetown Cemetery.

If desired, donations in Naomi’s memory may be made to the Provincetown Rescue Squad, PO Box 109, Provincetown, MA 02657, or the Swan Lake Cemetery Association, PO Box 291, South Dennis, MA 02660.
