Obituary

CHICOPEE – Lorraine D. (Croteau) Coiteux, 94, a longtime resident of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, February 4, 2016. She passed into Eternal Life at Wingate at South Hadley surrounded by all the memories she loved and cherished. She was born at home on Providence Street in the Aldenville section of Chicopee on February 24, 1921, a beloved daughter of the late Ernest M. and Laurea M. (Couture) Croteau. She was raised in Aldenville, graduated from Chicopee High School in 1939 and was a lifelong resident of Chicopee. She was employed as the Chicopee Assistant City Treasurer and worked in the Chicopee City Treasurer’s office for 55 years before retiring in 1996. She was a Past President and Treasurer of the Chicopee Municipal Retirees Association. Lorraine was a violinist and the founder of her orchestra, “Lorraine and her Playmates”. She was a member of the Musician’s Union 741in Springfield, a Past Treasurer of the Chicopee Community Concert Association, a Past Treasurer of the USO, a member of the Chicopee Over 60 Club, a Violinist for over 46 years with the Holyoke Symphonet and a former Concert Master of the Holyoke Symphonet. Lorraine was also a Violinist at many weddings and funerals in the area. She was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, L. Philippe Coiteux who was called Home on March 1, 1993. There were married on February 14, 1970 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville and were blessed with over 23 years of happiness together. Besides her parents and her husband, she was also predeceased by her loving sister, Estelle M. Barber who was Called Home on December 21, 2006. She leaves her loving niece, Nancy E. Chapdelaine and her husband, Neil, of Port St. Lucie, FL; and her many dear friends. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
