CHICOPEE – Louise M. (Tousignant) Cloutier, 89, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, February 2, 2016. She passed into Eternal Life at Mont Marie Healthcare Center in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Fortierville, Province of Quebec, Canada on September 17, 1926, the thirteenth child of fourteen to the late Omer and Valeda (Geoffroy) Tousignant. She was raised in Canada and emigrated from Canada to the United States in the mid-1940’s at the age of 18 with her beloved sister, Philomene, and was proud to become an American citizen. However, she remained loyal to her Québecois heritage with membership in various Franco-American organizations through Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville, where she remained a devoted communicant and active participant in numerous parish activities including the Ladies of Saint Anne Sodality. An exceptional cook, her most recent employment was in service to Sainte Rose preparing delicious meals and related functions for the late Monsignor Leo Leclerc, other priests and parish guests. Over the years, she worked in various capacities including an expert wedding cake decorator for Liberty Bakeries and a seamstress for Dorothy Dodd, Sears and Totsy Manufacturing and as an election poll worker. She also helped her husband “Al” to design, build and maintain her beloved family home on Felix Street in Aldenville. She loved to travel and, in addition to frequent family trips to Quebec, Canada, she enjoyed annual winter trips to various Florida locations with her husband, Al, and later to West Palm Beach/Greenacres, FL accompanied by her dear friend, the late Norman Belisle. She also visited France, Hawaii and Arizona. Above all, she loved her children and grandchildren and devoted herself to them with tremendous spirit and commitment throughout her life. Music was her greatest joy which she instilled into her children as well. She loved to sing old French Canadian folk songs and dance quadrilles with her brothers, sisters and numerous nieces and nephews who always adored “Tante Louise”. Quick-witted and fun-loving, she loved being with her people, laughing and teasing, and took great pride in creating elaborate meals and desserts for her family and friends. She loved “nature”, fresh air, the ocean, sunsets, walking, swimming and dancing. Her generous heart and genuinely warm smile touched everyone she knew and loved. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Albert A. “Tux” Cloutier who was Called Home on October 23, 1993. They were married on June 10, 1950 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville and were blessed with over 43 years of happiness together. She leaves her four loving children, Pauline C.
