SUNCOOK — Dr. John Paine Colby Jr., 61, was born to John Sr. and Estelle (Lugg) Colby on June 20, 1954. He passed on Feb. 1, 2016, with family beside him.
John graduated from Laconia High School in 1972. He went on to graduate from Princeton University in 1977. Getting his doctorate in sociology at UNH he was an epidemiologist for the State of New Hampshire.
He quarterbacked and punted for both Laconia High and the New Hampshire Shrine Team. He was chosen as a "Top 100 Backs in America" by "Kickoff" Magazine in 1971.
He led the Sachems to a 15-2-1 record in his junior and senior years and a Division II championship in 1970.
In baseball, John and Lee Sturdivant pitched Laconia to the Class L Championship in 1972. John delivered the game ending hit to defeat Keene in the championship game.
He was a very charming and witty man with a sense of humor that dominated his personality...he made you laugh!
John leaves behind the love of his life ... his daughter, Hannah, to whom he was a devoted and loving father. Also surviving him are Estelle Colby, who was not only his mother, but his best friend; a sister, two brothers and their spouses, Ann and Ray Talton, Bill and Patty Colby, Curt and Renee Colby and our other "adopted" sister, Ann (Bobotas) and Steve Grisse. John loved and was loved by all his nieces and nephews, Will and Jenny (Hundtoft) Talton, Jake, Leah, Stephen, Chelsea, Trevour Colby, Chrisanne and Ali Grisse.
He goes on to join his father, John P. Colby Sr.
