James “Mike” McCarthy, age 79, retired Boston Fire Lieutenant, of Squantum passed away January 27th. Born in Boston, he was raised in Mattapan and graduated from Hyde Park High School. He was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam Era. Mike was a proud member of the Boston Fire Department for many years before retiring as a lieutenant. Beloved husband of Barbara J. (Merrill). Father of Barbara J. Culhane of Littleton and James “Jimmy” M. McCarthy of Dunstable. Grandfather of Kayleigh Culhane, Henry and Charlotte McCarthy and the late Bridgette Culhane. Brother of John “Jack” McCarthy of Milton, William McCarthy of Hyde Park, Geraldine Boutin of Middleboro and the late Margaret Lang, Eileen Forsyth and Robert McCarthy. Funeral mass at Sacred Heart Church N. Quincy Monday morning at 10. Visiting hours at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home 326 Granite Ave Milton Sunday 2-6 pm.
