Lawrence – Catherine (M. (Harkness) Cain, 96 of Lawrence passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at the Lawrence General Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas F. Cain. Catherine was born in Lawrence on June 22, 1919, the daughter of William and Mary (McGravey) Harkness. She attended Lawrence schools and graduated from St. Mary’s High School, class of 1936. She then attended McIntosh Business School. She worked as a tax examiner for the IRS in Andover for 20 years until her retirement. She was a communicant of St. Patrick Parish, where she was a member of Our Lady of Sodality. She enjoyed dancing and loved spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Catherine will be deeply missed by her 3 children, Mary P. Faris of Lawrence, Kathleen Petrilli and her husband, Michael of Salem, NH, and Barbara J. Hobbs and her husband, Robert of Lawrence; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Catherine’s life by gathering for her Mass of Christian burial, which will be celebrated at 11 AM on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at St. Patrick Parish, 118 South Broadway, Lawrence. There will be no calling hours. Burial will follow at St. Mary/Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence.
