Joseph Lee "Big Joe" Schmitt
June 3, 1953 - Jan. 22, 2016

Joseph Lee "Big Joe" Schmitt, 62, died peacefully at home in Daleville, January 22, 2016 after an extended illness.

He was born and raised in Anderson and attended Anderson High School. For over 40 years, he worked as a logger for the late Tim Brandon (T.R. Brandon Exports) and was his right hand man.
Joe was a very hard worker, loyal and well respected man in the community as well as the logging industry.

He was a die-hard biker to say the least. Joe also had a true passion for raising all kinds of wild animals and his dogs. He loved being with his granddaughters, Cambri and Reaghan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilburn and Golda Schmitt and brothers, Jimmy and Jeff Schmitt.

Surviving is his wife, Lisa (Melton) Schmitt and daughter, Casey Schmitt; stepdaughter, Breanne Frye; granddaughters, Cambri Sue Campbell and Reaghan Raeanne Frye; and his beloved dog, Cujo; sisters, Billie Lou (Bob) Chandler and Judy Schmitt; two brothers, Jerry (wife Judy) Schmitt and Johnny Schmitt; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe also had a slew of friends that he could always count on and vice-versa.

Visitation will be held at the Chesterfield Millcreek Civic Center Gymnasium, Thursday, January 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral will be Friday, January 29 at 12 noon also at Millcreek Civic Center Gymnasium; 403 West Main Street; Chesterfield with Tom Ault officiating. Burial will be in Saunders Cemetery in Daleville.

Memorial contributions may be given to Chesterfield American Legion.
