Wilson J. Hillman, 86, of New Bedford died Tuesday June 14, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Mary (Gonsalves) Hillman.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late John and Anna (Gomes) Hillman, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
He was a member of the Mattapoisett Friends Meeting House.
Mr. Hillman was formerly employed by The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company for 31 years until his retirement. Prior to that, he worked for the International Longshoremen's Association Union Local #1413. He was an honorary member of the AFL-CIO union while working at Goodyear.
An avid golfer, he was a member of the Whaling City Golf Course and a former charter member of the 9-18 Golf Club.
Mr. Hillman served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Richard "R.J." James, and his fiancée Cheryl Pacheco, and Wilson "Butch" James, all of New Bedford; a brother, Horace Hillman of New Bedford; 3 granddaughters; 2 great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be private. Visiting hours are omitted.
