Obituary

Ray Edward “Ramon” Marcus, son of William Herman and Carrie Bierbaum Marcus went to Glory Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Baptist Health at the Glorious age of 95.
He was a WWII Army Veteran serving with the Medical Corp. After leaving the Army, he pursued his education in the medical field at DePaul University, University of Louisville and University of Kentucky. He then ended education at the University of Louisville where he obtained his Bachelors in 1951 and then masters in 1953 in the field of Psychology. He also received a degree in Gourmet cooking at Spencerian College.
Ray became an announcer for NBC affiliates in Louisville, Green Bay, Wi., Chicago, Ill and San Francisco Ca., from there he began his career as the Property & Casualty Manager for Travelers Insurance, where he traveled to other cities, he retired in 1985. He enjoyed performing at the old Colonial Gardens and singing with several groups around Louisville. Ray was affiliated with Hunsinger Lane Baptist Church, was a member and 3rd Degree Mason at the St. Matthews Masonic Lodge #906 and a Shriner.
He is preceded in death by his brother, William Brooks Marcus; sister, Ruth Marcus Hickox; and brother-in-law, Alan Hickox.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Gladys (Cambron); and nephews, William Alan Hickox, James Stewart Hickox.
His funeral will be 1:00 pm Friday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway, with burial at Cave Hill Cemetery.
His visitation will be Thursday 2:00 to 5:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Kosair Charities or Hunsinger Lane Baptist Church, 3400 Summerfield Drive, Louisville, KY 40220.
