Obituary

Jewel Dover Covington Paul, 93, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, January 17, 2016, at her residence.

Graveside services will be held 11 AM, Thursday, January 21, 2016, at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Michael Bass, the Rev. B.J. Cobb, and the Rev. Steve O’Neal officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Paul was born April 13, 1922, in Telfair County, Georgia to the late Albert Steven & Ellen Phillips Dover. She was a seamstress having worked for The Monarch Company, Modern Fibers, and Irwin Manufacturing. She loved growing plants and flowers and enjoyed fishing in her younger years. Mrs. Paul was skilled in needlework and was known to share her handmade projects with friends and family. She was a sweet Southern lady who never met a stranger and was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by a daughter: JoAnn Covington Hendley of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Greg Hendley & Sonya of Douglas, Eric Hendley of Fitzgerald, and Sonia Covington Sentelle & Richard of Arden, North Carolina; great-grandchildren: Dr. Christopher Hendley and his wife Dr. Stephanie Hendley of Atlanta, Blake Hendley of Athens, Christopher Weekley of Arden, North Carolina, Hunter Weekley of Arden, North Carolina, Brittney Bolland of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and Whitney Smith of Brevard, North Carolina; and a longtime caregiver, Reathea “Mae Mae” Richardson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, J.C. Covington and Bill Paul; a son, Calvin Jackson “C.J.” Covington; a son-in-law, Bobby Lee Hendley; a granddaughter, Tonia Covington Smith; four brothers and five sisters.
