Morris D. “Dooney” Campbell, Jr., 82, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, January 16, 2016, at Southern Care Assisted Living in Tifton.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Monday, January 18, 2016, at Central United Methodist Church in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Dr. Buddy Cooper, the Rev. B. J. Funk and the Rev. Mike Benson officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary on Monday.
Mr. Campbell was born March 17, 1933, in Rhine, Georgia, the only child of the late Morris D. & Bessie Cook Campbell. He was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School and played on the 1948 State Championship Football team. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Georgia. Mr. Campbell served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. An avid Bulldog Fan, Mr. Campbell has held season tickets for UGA football since 1972. He was owner/operator of The Colony Home, now Life Care Center, in Fitzgerald. He served as President of the Georgia Nursing Home Administrators Association and is the only person to serve two-terms as President of the Georgia Nursing Home Association. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church and the Covenant Sunday school class.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Cousins Campbell of Fitzgerald; children and their spouses: Melissa Campbell Anderson & Floyd of Milledgeville, Katrina Jo Campbell of Fitzgerald, and Tanya Campbell McWilliams & Chris of Newnan; grandchildren: Trista & Ryan Clemons, Koree & Bryan Drawdy, Paige Dorminy, Aidan McWilliams, Addison McWilliams, and Aaron McWilliams; and two great-grandchildren: Connor Clemons and Maddison Clemons.
