Arnold A. Wilde, 74, of New Bedford died May 14, 2002 at Rose Hawthorne Lathrop Home after a long illness.
He was the son of the late James I. and Esther (Lounds) Wilde.
Mr. Wilde was born in New Bedford and had lived in New Bedford for all of his life.
He was a member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church in New Bedford.
Mr. Wilde was formerly employed as a special delivery driver with the U.S. Postal Service. He had also been a taxi cab driver for Yellow Cab and Town Taxi for several years.
Mr. Wilde served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War, and was a recipient of the American Area medal and the World War II Victory medal. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Dr. Burt Chapter #7, and a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Whaling City Post 3196.
He was an avid reader, history buff, enjoyed crossword puzzles and was greatly loved by his nieces and nephews.
Survivors include 2 sisters, Ruth Johnson of New Hampshire, and Bertha O'Shea of Lakehurst, NJ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Ernest W. Wilde, William L. Wilde, Irving J. Wilde and Mildred Aceino.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours Friday, May 17th from 3-6 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
