Ann Meagher passed away on January 14, 2016 at the age of 95. She recently had the pleasure of celebrating her 95th birthday with her family and friends, including surprise relatives from out of town. Her 95th celebration included dancing the Conga line and playing “Pie Face!”
She was born Ann Fehr in Union Hill, New Jersey on November 23, 1920 to Rudpolph Fehr and Theresia Luber Fehr. She was the youngest of 10 children – Margaret, Rudolf, Hilda, Bertha, Ernest, Elsie, William, Martha and Edwin.
Ann married her hero and the love of her life, John William Meagher in 1942 while he was serving in the United States Army during WWII. They were blessed with 3 children – John, Lois and Ellen.
She was very proud of her husband receiving the Congressional Medal of Honor in 1946 from President Harry S. Truman. Over the following decades she enjoyed attending several presidential inaugurations and other special events.
She and John raised their children in Jersey City. She worked for McGraw-Hill in New York City and then the Jersey City Water Department, and John worked for the Hudson County Sheriff’s Department. She and John retired and moved to Toms River, New Jersey in 1980.
After the passing of her husband, John, in 1996 and her son, John, in 2008, she moved to Cypress Place in Ventura, CA, close to her elder daughter’s home. She is survived by her daughters, Lois Meagher Hiraiwa (and husband Gary Hiraiwa) and Ellen Meagher Teresi (and husband Joe Teresi); granddaughters Beverly Barragan and Jennifer Meagher; and great grandchildren, Lily and Luke Barragan.
She had a wonderful, long life with many blessings including great health. She wished to have her remains placed alongside her husband’s at Arlington National Cemetery. Services at Arlington will be later this year.
