Obituary

John “Jack” Clergy,89,of Whitman, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday January 13th. Proudly born and raised in South Boston, son of the late Ambrose and Catherine (Camp) Clergy. Jack and his family later moved to East Braintree during his high school years.

Jack met his wife Lois, in Whitman, where they made their home and raised their family for the past 58 years. Jack was employed by the Boston Gas Company, where he worked as an inspector. After 47 years he retired and was able to enjoy travelling and spending time with his family.

Jack was an avid sports fan, with a passion for anything hockey. He was a gifted player and a patient coach for many years. Jack also loved the beach and enjoyed meeting up with friends at Nantasket, for morning coffee and “shooting the breeze”.

Jack is survived by his loving wife Lois (Olson) Clergy, devoted father of Lynne Artz (Blake) of Whitman, Karen Bloomstein of Whitman, James Clergy of Whitman, Shelly Cahill (Damien) Of Halifax, Gail McDonald (James) of Halifax. He also leaves 14 adoring grandchildren Lois, Rachel, Brooke Artz, Augie, Shelly, John Bloomstein, Nathan, Eric, Katie Clergy, Molly, Tracy, Oliver Cahill, Jill, Joseph McDonald and many nieces and nephews. Jack was pre-deceased by his son John C. Clergy and sister Dorothy Buker.

At the family’s request, all services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack’s memory to Old Colony Hospice, One Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA 02367-4172.
