Obituary

Ted Moore of Westport Point, Massachusetts, died peacefully at home January 7, 2016. He was 94.
Ted was born on September 30, 1921 in Akron, Ohio, to Helen Ruth Sampson Moore and Theodore John Moore. Hewas a graduate of The Putney School in Vermont and continued his education at the Rhode Island School of Design. A World War II veteran, he joined the Army’s 10th Mountain Division in 1942 and was sent to Germany.He was injured in combat and received the Purple Heart. After a lengthy recovery,he headed back to school to pursue his love of architecture and graduated from the Harvard Graduate School of Design.
In 1949, missing the mountains, he moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, to practice architecture with Tom Moore Associates. In 1954, Ted opened his own practice in Denver and was active with the American Institute of Architects (AIA), serving for several years as the president of the western chapter.
In 1951, Ted married Willa June Glassco. They were married 64 years when June predeceased him April 1, 2015.
In 1967, he moved his family east to Concord, Massachusetts,where he practiced in Cambridge with Hugh Stubbins and Associates. In 1969, he and June moved to Westport year-round. He opened a private practice in Fall River and eventually Waltham, where he did extensive work for Hewlett Packard, nationally and internationally. Locally, he designed numerous residences and buildings; of note is the Westport Federal Credit Union in Central Village. In the 1970s Ted was an active member on the Westport Planning Board.
In retirement Ted spent many creative hours in his shop designing and building fine furniture. He was a co-founder of the Westport ROMEOS (Retired Older Men Eating Out) and was a Thursday regular until his health began to fail. Ted loved his family and is survived by his children Gay Gillespie (Westport, MA), Cathy Pomeroy and her husband Ted (Denver, CO), Grant Moore and his wife Debra (Westport, MA), Peter Moore (Manchester, NH), Greg Moore and his wife Holly (Bellevue, WA), eleven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
A celebration service, to which family and friends are invited, will be at the Westport Point United Methodist Church, 1912 Main Rd. Westport Point on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 2:00pm.
