Obituary

BETHEL, CT – Richard “Pops” Corn, 89, a longtime resident of Bethel, Connecticut, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, December 20, 2015. He passed into Eternal Life while sailing from Fort Lauderdale to the Caribbean on a Holland America Cruise Ship named “The Prinsendam”. He was born in Dallas, Texas on June 9, 1926, a beloved son of the late John R. Corn and May (Hersey) Corn. He was raised in Texas and later lived in Mount Vernon, New York before moving to Bethel, Connecticut around 1965. He served his country during World War II in the United States Marine Corps and attained the rank of Private First Class. He was last employed as a Mechanical Engineer for the Connecticut Coining Company, Inc. He was a member and past commander of the Lake Candlewood Power Squadron and a member of the World War II Veterans Association. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Thelma M. (Paul) Corn who was Called Home on February 28, 2001; his son, Ronald; and several brothers and sisters. He leaves his loving daughter, Judy A. Norwood of Easthampton; his loving son-in-law, Raymond C. Churchill, Jr. of Connecticut and Arizona; his four cherished grandchildren, Tracy Churchill of Surprise, AZ, Tim Norwood, Pamela Churchill and her partner, Paul Rosow, and Raymond C. Churchill, III and his wife, Lauren, of Griswold, CT; his cherished great-granddaughter whom he adored, Sydney Churchill of Griswold, CT; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Corn and Norwood families. His relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, January 15, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a Prayer Service at 11 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial with United States Marine Corps Military Honors will follow the service at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. His family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in his memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, 150 Cambridge Park Drive, Suite 202, Cambridge, MA 02140.
