Obituary

Mr. Jean J. Cote, of Raynham, died peacefully with his loving daughters at his side, on Saturday, January 9 at his residence following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Betty I. (White) Cote and the late Elaine (Morin) Cote. He was born 89 years ago in Taunton, the son of the late Wilfred S. and Edna (Gauvin) Cote. He was educated in Taunton, having attended Taunton High School. Prior to his retirement, Jean had been employed by the Masonry Union and was also a self-employed mason for over 50 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with the 1651 Engineering Utilities Detail in both France and Germany. Jean was a Catholic.
He leaves: 2 daughters: Irene E. Slone and her husband, David of Lakeland, Fla., and Debra Desley of Rehoboth; 2 brothers: Gerald Cote of Taunton, and Paul Cote and his wife, Dolores of Taunton; 2 sisters: Lorraine Williams of Raynham, and Yvonne Bird of Taunton; 4 grandchildren: Shelly Pedro, Stephen Desley, Ray Thomas McGuire and his wife, Katie, and Donald Jean McGuire; 5 great grandchildren: Jacob, Jack and Juliette McGuire, Connor and Abigail Pedro, and many nieces and nephews. Jean was also the brother of the late Lawrence, Ernest, and Norbert Cote, Anita Chickering, Claire Bleau, and Florence Giovenelli.
Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Thursday, January 14 at 9:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Church, Raynham, at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in Cedar Knoll Cemetery, East Taunton. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Wednesday, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M.
