Gennaro “Gerry” Ciano, of Somerville, passed away peacefully, on Friday, January 08, 2016 in the Massachusetts General Hospital. He was 95.
Born in Gaeta, Italy, he was the son of the late Nichola and Antoinetta Ciano. After high school, Gerry served in the Italian Army as a paratrooper under Mussolini. He was a P.O.W. until the end of WWII. After his release in 1946, Gerry came to the United States in 1952 where he worked as a Mason. The following year, Gerry married his wife Giannina. A family man, Gerry loved and cared for everyone, including his pet dogs. Gerry was a hardworking man, and was also a proud member of Local 22. Following his retirement, Gerry enjoyed visiting the family home in Wareham. In his spare time, he also loved to garden and raise various fruit trees on his orchard. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed the water and being out on the boat.
Gerry was the beloved husband of Giannina (Fiorenzio) Ciano, with whom he shared 62 loving years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Antoinette Ciano of Somerville as well as Nicholas Ciano and his wife Gail of Burlington. He was the loving grandfather of Jared Ciano of Burlington and the dear brother of Maria Alfonzi of Rome, Italy and the late Raymond, Giannina and Mennina. Gerry is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford, on Tuesday, January 12th at 9:30 AM. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 through 8 PM. His services will conclude with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, in Malden.
