Howard R. "Howdy" Myers

Howard R. "Howdy" Myers, 81, passed away January 3, 2016 at Community Hospital.

He was born October 29, 1934, the son of the late Truman H. and Anna L. Myers, on a farm near Hughesville, PA. where he graduated in 1952 from Hughesville High School.

Howard graduated with a bachelors degree in retailing in 1959 from Lycoming College where he belonged to Theta-Chi Fraternity.

Howard strarted with S. S. Kresge Co. in 1958 at Harrisburg, PA. He served as manager in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan Stores. Howard retired from K-Mart (Anderson) in 1991.

Howard married Karen Arlene Gruber on May 2, 1964, who survives him. They are the proud parents of Kimberly Morse and Cynthia (Matt) Smith. They are fortunate to have three grandchildren, Erin Morse, Benjamin Smith and Ryan Smith, a sister, Adda (Clem) Clark and several nieces and nephews.

Howard belonged to many organizations including, Anderson Garden Club where he was a Master Gardener and past president; Charter member and past president of Crime Stoppers; served the United Way and received the "Volunteer of the Year" Award in 1995; member for many years of Kiwanis Club where he received the "George F. Hickson" Award for fund raising selling their Gourmet Nuts; member of the Chamber of Commerce "SCORE" and Habitat for Humanity.

He also enjoyed gardening and woodworking and participated in Servanthood Saturday for several years helping to build 30 wheelchair ramps with a lot of help from many members of East Side Church of God. He belonged to BYKOTA (Be Ye Kind One To Another) Sunday School Class and served as president for several years. Howard loved the Lord, his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a step-brother, two infant sisters and infant son, David Howard.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at East Side Church of God with Pastor Mark Shaner officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 11 a.m. until the hour of the service at the church. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.

Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service handled the funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to East Side Church of God or United Way.
