Norman T. Sorel, 62, of Westport passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, December 30, 2015 in Florida. He was the husband of Betty M. (Britland) Sorel, they were married for 41 years.
Born in Fall River, son of Marguerite V. (Levasseur) Sorel and the late Rudolph N. Sorel, he had lived in Westport since 1974. A graduate of Bishop Connolly High School and UMass-Dartmouth, he received his masters degree from Lesley University. He was a Communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport where he served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister, he also volunteered at the Catholic Social Services Soup Kitchen in Fall River and was the chairman of the St. Anne's Shrine Restoration Committee. He was a plant manager for the former CHF Industries in Fall River for 20 years. Mr. Sorel was a member of the Fall River Chamber of Commerce, served as a mentor for the SMILE Program and was involved in youth sports in Westport for many years. A passionate New England sports fan, he also enjoyed fishing, boating, going to the beach, riding his Harley Davidson and attending his grandson's sporting events.
Including his wife and mother, survivors include a son: Norman K. Sorel of St. Petersburg, FL; a daughter: Monique M. Scales and her husband Matthew of Sudbury, MA; 3 sisters: Claudette Sorel Raymond of FL, Elianne Sorel of FL and Catherine Mendoza and her husband Wayne of FL; a mother-in-law: Masuko "Kitty" Britland of Westport; a brother-in-law: John Britland (Lisa) of Fall River; 2 grandchildren: Sean V. Scales and Nathan L. Scales; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Mass to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, January 9, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.
Memorial visitation will be Friday from 4 - 7 P.M. at the Potter Funeral Home.
