Whitman – Thomas J. Coen 80, died in his Whitman home, surrounded by his family on Thursday December 31. He was the beloved husband of 54 years to Mary (Grealish) Coen.
Born and raised in Ireland he was the son of the late Thomas and Catherine (Malloy) Coen.
Thomas moved to the United States in 1957 and had been a resident of Whitman for the past 47 years. He was a familiar face locally having worked for the Department of Public Works in town for over 30 years.
He enjoyed playing cards with friends and the challenge of a good game of horseshoes.
In addition to his wife Mary he is survived by his children Tom Coen and his wife Dotty of Whitman and Lisa Mossman and her husband Kevin of Hanson, his brother Michael Coen of Cotuit and his sister Mary Byrnes of Ireland. He is also survived by six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William and John Coen.
His funeral service will be held Tuesday January 5 at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Monday January 4 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
