NEW BEDFORD -- Phyllis E. Carvalho, 82, of Olympia Towers and formerly of Smith St., died Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at Sacred Heart Nursing Home. She was the widow of Joseph Carvalho Sr.
Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late William and Gladys (Hathaway) Benoit and lived in New Bedford all of her life.
Mrs. Carvalho was a campfire leader and active member of the International Church of the Nazarene, where she sang in the choir.
Survivors include three sisters, Patricia Walecka of Georgia, Sandra Morel of Fairhaven and Brenda Swain of New Bedford; two aunts, Viola Golen and Elsie Hathaway, both of Somerset; a stepson, Joseph Carvalho Jr.; an adopted son, Michel Cottle; two nieces; several godchildren and cousins; and a dear friend, Maureen Ellis of Pennsylvania.
She was the mother of the late Walter Benoit.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m., Friday, June 10, 2005, in the International Church of the Nazarene, 284 Pleasant St. New Bedford, Ma. Visiting hours are Thursday from 4-7 p.m.
