Mack Wesley Suggs, 89, of Tifton passed away Thursday, December 24, 2015, at Cypress Pond Assisted Living in Tifton. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 26, 2015, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Rev. Paul Thomas and Dr. Wayne Roe officiating. Mr. Suggs will be laid to rest Sunday, December 27, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. (central time) at Malvern Cemetery in Slocomb, Alabama. The family will receive friends Saturday, December 26, 2015, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Family members will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be retired teachers and principals of Tift County Schools.
Born September 10, 1926 in Mayo, Florida, Mr. Suggs was the son of the late Oscar Suggs and Verdie Jones Suggs. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald Suggs; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Doyce and Christine Saunders and Roy and Carolyn Saunders; and a sister-in-law, Dessa Ann Saunders. He retired in 1988 from the Tift County Board of Education, where he was the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction. He was active in the Boy Scouts and received a Silver Beaver Award. He was a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school and served as a deacon. He was also a veteran of the United States Army.
Mr. Suggs is survived by his wife, Sabie Saunders Suggs of Tifton; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Melisa Suggs of Athens; one daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Ike Kent of Thomasville; four grandchildren, Emily Suggs, Lauren Suggs, Manning Kent and wife Lindley and Wes Kent and wife Magali; one great-grandchild, Georgia Lee Kent; and a brother-in-law, Paul Saunders of Slocomb, Alabama.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to the Memorial Fund at Tifton’s First Baptist Church, 404 Love Avenue, Tifton, GA 31794.
