Obituary

Elizabeth Louise “Betty” (Paulding) Bowker, 82, a long-time resident of Winchester, passed away peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House on December 21st. Born on January 7, 1933 in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Elizabeth Paulding.

Betty grew up in Jersey City and graduated from Lincoln High School. She moved to Winchester in 1955 where she raised her five children. She was active in her church and loved cooking, playing Bridge with her friends and spending time with her family. Outside of the home, she was a librarian at the Winchester Public Library and worked for many years at the Wilson Insurance Agency. Betty will be remembered as a kind and thoughtful woman with deep love and dedication for her family and friends. She enjoyed baking her legendary Almond Tea Cakes but she especially loved to share them with people that she met, friends and family. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her son, George Bowker and his wife Kim of Southborough, MA; son, Andrew Bowker and his wife Jacqueline of West Chicago, IL; daughter Kathryn Bowker Haber and her husband Mark of Denver, CO; son-in-law Peter Whitman of Kittery, ME; and her 11 grandchildren : Brad and Adam Whitman; Lauren, Brittany and Nick Bowker; Drew, Nicole and Clea Bowker; Harry, Luke and Jake Haber. She is also survived by her sister, Pat of FL, and brother, Sonny of NJ. Betty is predeceased by her ex-husband, Calvin H. Bowker, Sr., daughter, Deborah Bowker Whitman and son, Calvin H. Bowker, Jr.

Family and Friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the family on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 from 4-7pm at the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester. A Memorial Service celebrating Betty’s life will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at 11am at the Crawford Memorial Church, 34 Dix St. (corner of Dix and Church St.), Winchester. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s memory may be made to the Wings of Hope for Pancreatic Cancer Research at 8404 Brambleridge Drive, Castle Pines, CO 80108 or www.wingsofhopepcr.org.
