WAYLAND: Mary J. (Davis) Maguire, 90, died peacefully and comfortably on Saturday, December 19, 2015 following a period of declining health.
She was born in Boston on July 23, 1925 the daughter of the late William J. Davis and Agnes B. (Ford) Davis.
Mary is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 70 years, John F. Maguire, Jr. of Wayland. Cherished mother of Mary J. Maguire Frost of Henniker, NH; Kathleen A. Hill and her husband Dr. Joseph Hill of Rindge, NH; Joan P. Maguire and her husband William Coppinger of Penacook, NH and Patricia A. Maguire Watt of North Conway, NH and the late John F. Maguire, III who died on December 23, 2014. Caring sister of Sister Rita Ann Davis, Sister of St. Joseph of Framingham and the late Alice Grimes, Irene Rabideau and Joseph Davis. Also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mary has resided on Wayland for over 65 years and spent her formative years in Dorchester. She graduated from Dorchester High School for Girls where she excelled in musical instruments. She was a Draftswoman for several years for Stone and Webster in Boston and received the “E” for Excellence Award from the company. During World War II, Mary was active in many civil projects in the Boston area. She was an accomplished seamstress and was renowned for the many wedding dresses that she designed and created for brides. She was an excellent quilter and in 1976 was honored at the State House for the flag she designed and sewed for the Wayland Bi-Centennial. For many years, she was the Warden for Precinct 1 for the Town of Wayland elections. Mary was a longtime and active communicant at Saint Ann’s Church in Wayland and served as a Eucharistic Minister and was the former President of the Altar Guild. She also was a member of the women’s bowling league at the church and received many trophies over the years. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family and found great comfort in her Catholic faith. She will be fondly remembered and loved by all who had the pleasure to know her.
Visitations will be held on Sunday, December 27, 2015 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland.
Family and friends are requested to go directly to Good Shepherd Parish at St. Ann’s Church, 124 Cochituate Road (Rte 27), Wayland on Monday, December 28, 2015 at 10:00 am for Mary’s Mass of Christian Burial.
Interment will follow in the Maguire family lot in North Cemetery in Wayland.
