Obituary

Catherine (Iritano) Capezzuto of Medford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 17th at the Winchester Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was 92.

Born and raised in East Boston, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Charlotte “Anna” (Fiantaca) Iritano. Catherine was a graduate of the East Boston Girls High School. Following graduation, she married Nicholas Capezzuto and the two started their family in Medford, where she lived for 62 years. A homemaker, Catherine raised her family with love and compassion. A true Christian woman, she loved everyone. Catherine was able to find the good in each person. She believed everyone deserved a chance and enjoyed helping others whenever possible. An animal lover, Catherine often would say that “Animals are people too!” She lived her life to the fullest and was true to herself. Often times, you would hear her sing the song, “I Gotta Be Me” by Sammy Davis Jr. In her spare time, if she wasn’t with her family, she would be cooking, singing, enjoying the opera and living her life without any regrets.

Catherine was the beloved wife of the late Nicolas Capezutto, who passed away in 2007. The two shared many loving years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Edward Capezzuto and his wife Deborah of Florida, Karen Mason and her husband Ken of Wilmington, Steven Capezzuto and his wife Frances of Tewksbury. Catherine was the loving grandmother of Steven, David, Daniel and Michele Capezzuto, Brian and James Mason, Laurie Richards and Charles Nickerson. She was the loving great grandmother of 14. Catherine was the dear sister of Grace Iritano, Lorraine Manis and her husband Leo, Dorothy Candeliere and her late husband Pat. Catherine was preceded in death by her siblings Sam Iritano and his wife Joan as well as Phyllis Hoyt and her husband Richard. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and several that adopted her as their grandmother.

Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, on Monday, December 21st at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner St., Medford, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 4 through 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Catherine’s name to the Burlington House: NeArc 64 Holten St., Danvers, MA 01923.
