Elaine D. (Pitt) Mills, 89, of Concord, NH and formerly a long time resident of Derry Village, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 in the Havenwood Heritage Healthcare in Concord after a number of years of failing health. Elaine was born on May 18, 1926 in Derry, NH, daughter of the late Oscar and Theda (Iverson) Pitt. She grew up in Derry and graduated from Pinkerton Academy, Class of 1944. On August 24, 1944 she married Arthur Mills Sr. They lived in Derry Village raising 6 children. After their children were on their own, they moved to Londonderry. Elaine and Arthur were married 56 years at the time of his death in 2000. After Arthur’s death, Elaine moved to Penacook. She was very active in the community and in her children’s activities. She was a member of the PTA, Boys Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America, Central Congregational Church; Board of Trustees, Fellowship Hall Committee, Ladies Benevolent Society, Ladies Charitable Association, annual Derry Parades, Ladies’ Auxiliary Fire Department and Red Hatters. Elaine worked at the Hospital Pharmacy and volunteered at the Alexander-Eastman Hospital. She was an avid Patriot’s fan. You didn’t call her if the Patriots were playing and if they were losing you definitely didn’t call her.
Elaine is survived by her six children and their spouses: Judith (John) Riley of Penacook, Joyce Diener of Post Falls, ID., Arthur (Barbara) Mills, Jr. of Fairhaven, MA., Jayne Doyle of Manchester, Steve Mills of Manchester, and Scott (Debra) Mills of Littleton, CO.; 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; brother-in-law Warren Flanders of Derry; nephew Ronald (Deena) Lee of Acworth, Ga; and niece Sandra (Jerry) McKenney of Allenstown. Elaine was predeceased in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Elva (Pitt) Flanders.
There are no calling hours. Following cremation, a memorial celebration will be held on Wednesday May 18, 2016 at 10:30am in the Central Congregational Church, 14 Crescent St., Derry. Burial will follow the Forest Hill Cemetery, East Derry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pinkerton Academy Alumni Association, 5 Pinkerton St., Derry, NH 03038. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry is handling the arrangements.
