SOMERSET - Richard R. Maynard, age 85, of Somerset, passed away on December 11, 2015 surrounded by his loving family at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary V. (Medeiros) Maynard. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Hector V. and Alpheda (Bamville) Maynard. Richard was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War, and a member of the Am-Vets Post 72, Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree through St. John of God Church, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree through Father Donahue of Assembly in Tiverton, RI., American Civic League and Brayton Club. He was a long time parishioner of St. John of God Church. Richard was known as a talented handyman and loved working on cars. He loved watching Nascar and was an avid fan of the Red Sox and Patriots. He especially loved spending time with his family, particularly his cousin Charlie Peladeau. Prior to retirement he worked as a tool & dye maker for many years at Sarama and Lightolier.
Richard leaves behind his children Marianne Maynard-Manoli (husband John) of NH, Richard P. Maynard (wife Diane) of Swansea, Carol A. Maynard of Somerset and Diane M. Berube (husband Ted) of Somerset; grandchildren Samantha Claire Berube, Allison and Rachel Maynard; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Maurice Maynard.
His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. 1521 N. Main St., Fall River Monday with extended calling hours from 7:30-10:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John of God Church, Somerset at 11:00 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Somerset. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
