Maria Sarantidis, age 91, passed away on December 9, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center. Maria was born in Parakila, Lesvos, Greece on December 11, 1923 to the late Mihail and Evangelia (Frangoyiannis) Psaltou. She was a communicant of St George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield. She worked as a seamstress before retiring from the former Lawrence Sports Wear in West Spfld. Maria is predeceased by her loving husband Panagiotis Sarantidis who passed away on April 4, 2015. She leaves one daughter Evangelia Mirisis and her husband Christoforos of Chicopee and a son James Sarantidis and his partner Siena Whitefield of East Chesterfield, one brother Evangelos Psaltou and one sister Anastasia Stefanellis both from Greece. Maria also leaves three granddaughters and four great granddaughters. Maria was a remarkable woman who was devoted to her family and always exhibited tremendous, unconditional love and pride towards them. She possessed extraordinary skills in embroidery, knitting and crocheting and left a treasure of handmade items to be utilized and enjoyed by every family member and friends. Her loss will leave an enormous void in everyone’s life and she will always be remembered with love, respect and admiration. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday December 12, 2015 at 11 AM from St George Greek Orthodox Cathedral 22 St George Rd. Springfield, MA with burial to follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Calling Hours will be held on the morning of from 10 AM to 11 AM at the Church.
