CHICOPEE – Helen (Wewiorski) Mazza, 90, a longtime resident of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, December 9, 2015. She passed into Eternal Life at Birch Manor Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Chicopee surrounded by her loving caregivers and all the memories she loved and cherished. She was born at home on Middle Street in the Chicopee Falls section of Chicopee on September 19, 1925, a beloved daughter of the late John and Apolonia (Kondej) Wewiorski. She was raised in the Sandy Hill section of Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee High School and lived in Chicopee for many years. She later lived in Springfield, Hampden, Longmeadow and Deltona, Florida. She returned to the area around 2005 and lived in East Longmeadow. She was last employed as an office worker at the former Monsanto Chemical Company in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield and retired in 1979. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Anthony J. Mazza who was Called Home on March 14, 1983. They were married on October 4, 1947 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 35 years of happiness together. Besides her parents and her husband, she was also predeceased by her loving brother, Thaddeus Wewiorski; and her three loving sisters, Gladys Wewiorski, Viola Douglas and Amelia “Millie” Golonka who was Called Home on October 16, 2007. She leaves her loving nephew and his wife who were her caregivers, John A. and Theresa Golonka, of Chicopee; her niece, Carol A. D’Agostino and her husband, Thomas, of Springfield; and her many nephews and nieces. Her funeral will be held on Monday morning, December 14, 2015 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107,(funeral home will open at 8 a.m.), followed by a Requiem High Mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Mother of the Rosary Polish National Catholic Church, 26 Bell Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. Her burial will follow the Mass at Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker Street, Springfield, MA 01129.
