RUTH PIERCE
LEDYARD- Ruth (Keeney) Pierce, 83, devoted wife of Wallace T. Pierce, passed away Sunday morning at Mystic Manor after a prolonged illness.
She was born in Old Mystic on March 7, 1922 the daughter of Harry and Mabel (Haley) Keeney, and adopted daughter of her uncle and aunt, Elisha and Carrie Davis. She attended Groton Public Schools and graduated from Fitch High School in 1940. Prior to her marriage, she worked briefly at Commerce Bank. She was talented in crafts and sewing and enjoyed painting in oils and pastels.
After corresponding during World War II with Wallace, they met after his discharge at the war’s termination and soon married and settled in Old Mystic. They have been married for 59 years. In addition to her husband, Ruth is survived by three children, Keith of Franklin, MI, Scott of Breckinridge, CO, and Beverly D’Arrigo of East Bridgewater, MA, her sister-in-law, Alice Keeney of Newington, and her grandchildren, Karen Kenn, Jill Silva, and Harry & Kendal Pierce, 2 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a stepbrother, Elisha (Lyle) Davis, brother Albert Keeney and sisters, Mary White and Katherine Metzermacher.
A Funeral service will be conducted at The Old Mystic Baptist Church, Shewville Road, Old Mystic on Friday at 11am. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery. There are no visiting hours. Donations in her memory may be made to The Ledyard Public Health Nursing Service or The Old Mystic Baptist Church.
